# Meta Audiences

> Keep Custom Audiences of your Subtotal shoppers in your Meta ad accounts, refreshed nightly.

Subtotal keeps Custom Audiences of your shoppers in your Meta ad accounts and refreshes them every night.

## Before you start

* [Connect Meta](https://docs.subtotal.com/docs/integrations/meta/introduction.md) and grant at least one ad account.
* Connected before audiences were available? Select **Update** on the [Meta integration](https://dashboard.subtotal.com/integrations/meta) to grant audience access.

## Create an audience

**1. Add audience**

Open [Meta → Audiences](https://dashboard.subtotal.com/integrations/meta/audiences) and select **Add audience**.

**2. Choose settings**

| Setting | Choose |
| - | - |
| Audience | **Linked an account** or **Shared a purchase** |
| Name | How it appears in Ads Manager |
| Ad account | Where the audience lives. Can't be changed later |
| Conditions | Which retailers count. No conditions includes every retailer |

**3. Wait for the nightly sync**

The audience appears in your ad account after the next nightly sync. Edits apply the same way.

| Audience | Includes |
| - | - |
| Linked an account | Every shopper who has linked a retail account with you |
| Shared a purchase | Shoppers who have shared a purchase with you |

Shoppers stay in after they disconnect. Shoppers who [opt out of ad sharing](https://docs.subtotal.com/docs/subtotal-signal/opt-outs.md), or whose connection you delete, are removed at the next successful sync.

## Check status

| Status | Meaning |
| - | - |
| Synced | Refreshed in the last day |
| Syncs tonight | New; members arrive at the next sync |
| Waiting for Meta access | Select **Update** on the Meta integration to grant audience access |
| Not synced recently | Missed a nightly sync |
| Ad account unreachable | Meta didn't respond for this ad account, usually briefly. If it lasts, check the account's access in Meta |
| Ad account not granted | Subtotal no longer has this ad account; grant it again with **Update** |
| Status unavailable | Subtotal couldn't check with Meta. Reload later |
| Meta: … | Something to fix in Meta, such as accepting the Custom Audience terms |

**Size** is Meta's estimate. Small audiences show **Under 1,000**; **—** means Meta hasn't shared one.

If the page asks you to **Reconnect Meta**, nothing syncs until you do.

An audience that can't sync keeps its current members in Meta until access is restored.

## Remove

* **An audience:** open its settings and select **Delete audience**. Subtotal deletes it from the ad account, and ad sets targeting it lose it.
* **An ad account:** delete its audiences first, then remove the account from Subtotal in Meta Business Settings → **Connected apps**.

If Subtotal can't reach the ad account (**Ad account not granted** or **Ad account unreachable**), deleting here won't remove the audience from Meta. Delete it in Ads Manager.
