# Team & Roles

> Invite your teammates, choose their roles, and see who can sign for your brand.

## Overview

Every Subtotal dashboard belongs to a team: the people at your brand who work with Subtotal. Team members are managed under **settings → team**, where you can see each member's name, email, and role, and invite new members.

## Roles

Subtotal has two roles: **owner** and **admin**. Owners sit at the top of the hierarchy: they can invite anyone, including other owners, and sign agreements on behalf of the brand. Admins can do everything except manage owners: an admin cannot invite an owner, and cannot resend or cancel an owner's invitation.

The first member of a new team is its owner by default. Teams can have multiple owners, and any owner can invite another, which is useful when the person who set up the account doesn't have authority to sign for the company.

Here's what each role can do:

| | Owner | Admin |
| :- | :- | :- |
| Create API keys, configure webhooks, and set up integrations | ✓ | ✓ |
| Invite admins | ✓ | ✓ |
| Invite owners | ✓ | — |
| Manage owners' invitations | ✓ | — |
| Sign agreements on behalf of the brand | ✓ | — |

## Inviting team members

To invite team members, go to **settings → team**, click **invite**, enter the person's email address, and choose their role. They receive an email with the invitation.

<Note>
  Invitations are tied to the email address they were sent to. The invitee must sign in with that email to join the team.
</Note>

<Note>
  A member's role is set when they're invited. To change it afterwards, contact [support@subtotal.com](mailto:support@subtotal.com).
</Note>

## Agreements

One person accepts Subtotal's [Services Agreement](https://subtotal.com/legal/customers) on behalf of your brand: whoever starts the team's subscription. That acceptance happens once and covers the whole team.

Everyone else, including owners who join later, acknowledges Subtotal's terms and privacy policy for themselves when they accept their invitation. They are covered by the acceptance already on file and don't need to sign anything on the company's behalf.

Because starting the subscription is what binds your brand, the person who does it needs authority to sign for the company. Either role can start it, so if you don't have that authority, invite someone who does and let them start it. The subscription screen has a **someone else handles billing** option that lets you send the invitation.
