# Getting Access

> Create your Subtotal account, request access, and start your subscription.

## Overview

Anyone can create a Subtotal account. You sign up, tell us about your brand from inside the dashboard, and our team reviews the request. Your dashboard stays locked until the request is approved.

<Note>
  Already work with a brand that uses Subtotal? Don't sign up on your own: that creates a second, separate team. Ask an existing owner or admin on your team to [invite you](/docs/account/team-and-roles#inviting-team-members), and accept that invitation instead.
</Note>

## Creating your account

<Steps>
  <Step title="Create your account">
    Sign up at [dashboard.subtotal.com/sign-up](https://dashboard.subtotal.com/sign-up) with your work email and a password, or continue with Google. You'll be asked to name your team. Use your brand's name, not your own or an internal nickname. It's the brand your agreement with Subtotal covers.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Tell us about your brand">
    You're prompted to submit an access request. Every field is required:

    | Field | Notes |
    | :- | :- |
    | **Brand name** | The brand your shoppers will share purchase data with. This is your team name. |
    | **First and last name** | The person we should contact about the request. |
    | **What do you want to do with Subtotal?** | A sentence or two about your use case. |

    You can edit your request and resubmit as long as it's still under review.
  </Step>

  <Step title="We review your request">
    Our team will review your request. The dashboard stays locked while it's pending and shows its status.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Start your subscription">
    Once your request is approved, your dashboard shows a "start your subscription" prompt. Anyone on your team can start it and accept the agreement, so long as they add a payment method and have authority to sign for your brand. As the first member of your team you are its **owner**, so you can also invite the rest of your team, including other owners. See [Team & Roles](/docs/account/team-and-roles) and [Billing & Plans](/docs/account/billing).
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  Invited to an existing team but looking at an empty onboarding form instead? You're probably signed in with a different email. Sign out and sign in with the email the invitation was sent to: signing up with any other email creates a brand new team of your own.
</Note>

## What happens next

Once your request is approved, the typical path to production is short. Follow the [getting-started walkthrough](/docs/guides/getting-started) for the full path: start your subscription, configure [Subtotal Link](/docs/subtotal-link/introduction), set up your entry points, link an account, and watch purchase data arrive.

## Questions?
